The stamps of the United States should  rank in beauty with the best in the world.  In the unanimous opinion of all the artists I have talked with, our postage design  leaves much to be desired. True, a number  of our stamps have been excellent, such
    as the White Plains Commemorative,
    the  Massachusetts Bay Colony Commemorative, etc., etc. Our  present regular series of postage stamps are good, but on  the whole the standard of design is  . . .
