The Best of Stamp News Publishing (SNP)

Greetings!

Some interesting features this month, if I do say so myself—keeping in mind that as I work on each issue, most of this material is new and interesting to the collector in me.

Of some timeliness is an article on the USS Constitution. Even though its history ties more closely to the War of 1812, it still has relevancy to the early history we celebrate on the Fourth of July.

Even more timely is a series on the Olympics from 1896 through 1948. Because of the size, they are presented here in three parts, as originally published.

Also warranting an explanation is the Plimpton Envelopes article by C. H. Mekeel. It comes from another publication with which we are indirectly connected. When this article appeared in The Philatelic Era, that publication was an independent, published by W.W. Jewett. When I.A. Mekeel died in 1913, Mekeel's was purchased by the Severn-Wylie-Jewett corporation; thus our connection. (I should add, when founded in 1891, C. H. Mekeel was a co-founder of Mekeel's at a time when that was one of the leading stamp companies in American.)

Rounding out this issue, we visit Landlocked Burundi and have a review of Cold War Philately—and bring up to date in 2024 our study of the New Rarities Class that began in 2008.

Enjoy!
