The Best of Stamp News Publishing (SNP)

Greetings!

This month we continue our multi-month tour of Landlocked Colombian States by Geir Sør-Reime, this installment being on Santander.

Fabulous Firsts is an Aland March 1, 1984 First Issue a departure from the 1800s and early 1900s First issues that we usually cover. We see many emerging nations FAB Firsts of recent vintage, but it is particularly unusual for a West European country with a long history.

From our July 2010 U.S. Stamp News we bring you a subject that rarely is seen in depth, an illustrated study by Lou Repeta on printing U.S. Precancels and Overprints. Also from 2010–the February 5 Mekeel's of Stamps, we view an outstanding Antarctica Collection.

New to SNO this month is Part 1 of a series on Victorian Canada by Ed Richardson, from the 1944 Stamp Specialist Maroon Book. Richardson’s approach is that of an avid collector who wants to share with his readers the pleasures of collecting Canada. While Part 1 covers the Prestamp Period, the author started with an unusual stamp period cover. In my own search, some covers I bear stamps, but I selected them as excellent examples of the cancels.

Finally, I am pleased to bring you Stanley Ashbrook’s study of the 1847 5¢ Issue. The layout was tricky, trying to place new images near the relevant text, but I think it works…hopefully you will as well.

Enjoy!
